Learn from practitioners
Professionals and alumni add context that is hard to get from a textbook: how questions are chosen, where research goes wrong, and what the work feels like day to day.
About CATC
CATC was created for Cornell students who wanted to go beyond talking about markets and learn how quantitative research is actually done. Members learn the foundations, hear directly from professionals, and work in teams on research and infrastructure that the rest of the club can use.
The idea
Learning becomes more meaningful when there is a real question to answer, a team to challenge your assumptions, and someone else who can use what you built.
What makes CATC different?
Professionals and alumni add context that is hard to get from a textbook: how questions are chosen, where research goes wrong, and what the work feels like day to day.
Members do not have to understand every part of quantitative research at once. They can learn one part deeply while seeing how their work connects to everyone else’s.
A useful dataset, indicator, quality check, or research tool can be improved by future members instead of disappearing at the end of a semester.
Research gets better when assumptions are visible. Members present their reasoning, respond to feedback, and document what another team needs to know.
Built to continue
Shared work does not mean every idea succeeds. It means the data, code, reasoning, and documentation are clear enough for another member to review, improve, or learn from.
Student-led
Members teach each other, ask for help, present unfinished ideas, and make room for people who approach a problem differently.
